After the initial three week period the number of teaspoons can often be reduced to a level that maintains the pet. Reduction should be done gradually in 1/2 to 1 teaspoon increments depending on the size of the pet, and should not be reduced more then one time per month. Administration may be increased at any time depending on the pet's needs.

Dr. Colleen Smith has this to say about arthritis supplements for dogs: MSM is an excellent supplement for joint health, you can give your dogs from 500mg – 1000mg for medium to large dogs respectively. Dogs unlike people do manufacture ascorbic acid (Vit C). It has been found that using glucosamine, chondroitin, MSM and Vit C together have a synergistic effect on joints by supporting the healing process, activating immune cells to damaged joints and increasing the anti-inflammatory process. Side effects are minimal to none with the only signs being gastrointestinal upset. If that occurs decrease the dose for 2 weeks and then adjust back to the recommended dose.
